I had almost forgotten: A week or so back when Steve Gerber passed away, I mentioned that I had done some Howard the Duck drawings. I scanned them in while I was visiting Tucson over the weekend...



Just a standard Howard to start with. I think I could be pretty happy drawing a Howard comic. I like his look...

This next one is a riff on an early HTD cover. Howard was bursting through the newspaper bearing the headline of his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States. I was a kid when the book came out, and I remember flipping it over to see what I was sure was going to be the same image from the reverse (bear in mind that this was a good ten or fifteen years prior to wraparound covers on mainstream books). I was so disappointed. So here's that cover from a suitable distance ...



AND the classic (to me anyway) Howard-as-Son-of-Satan. I always loved the crazy buck teeth he grew when he became the Fowl of Satan, or whatever it was he called himself ...

Brilliant! Howard is the only Marvel character I liked...actually in mainstrean comic book period. I was lucky enough to pick up Gerber's Nevada comic series and it was damned good.

Now they're redoing Howard wihtout Gerber with a Harvey Pekar influence. THAT mix is just maladjusted.

RIP big guys and say YO to Douglas Adams for us apes!

Those are just plain awesome. Much cooler than what they've been doing with the character lately.

Amazing. My dad says that's the first movie I sat through without crying.
