The Ouija Whiteboard

The Ouija Whiteboard
Originally uploaded by CalamityJon.
The latest craft project from up here in the house on the top of the hill; I've been meaning to get a whiteboard or a corkboard or something so that my wife and I have a handy way of leaving notes for one another or a place to write down what we need by way of groceries, etcetera, you know, the typical stuff you use a whiteboard for and which I probably didn't have to explain.

Anyway, why bother just buying one when I can put myself to all sorts of trouble and make one from scratch. I scanned in a Parker Brothers' Ouija board (in three parts) and did some not-terribly-fancy editing in Photoshop to remove the letters from the center area, then laminated the thing, mounted it on soft foam and then attached that a magnetic sheet, voila, mysterious message board from beyond the veil of death!

More closer-upper photos here and here.

The spirits are saying..."you're almost out of Diet Rite."

*shiver*

Spooky.

Man, I legit wish I knew precisely what mechanics were at work with Ouija boards. OBVIOUSLY someone's pushing it, but I'd like to know how it's worked out who's doing it, what the hierarchy of control would be ...

Clearly, whoever wants us to buy more bread has to push on the thing.

That is amazing. Your house must be full of stuff like that. Or, at least, I like to imagine it is.

Also, I am terribly disappointed that the refrigerator in my current abode is NON-MAGNETIC. Who makes a refrigerator you can't attach things to? Especially since I have a set of magnets of the last six Presidents dressed as pimps.... (Of course Clinton's the only one who's actually got a woman with him ... )

My home is kind of getting there - I just got an octopus-shaped brass lamp for the bathroom and will be hanging the three-color poster for a 50's explotation film in there, and we have old faux vintage suitcases everywhere and late-forties magazine illos on the wall. I try to keep it lively.

Also, that is messed up, are you sure you didn't keep the box and throw away the fridge that came in it?

You should seriously market those, because I would buy one in a hot minute. In fact, how much money would I have to throw at you in order to get you to make me one of those?

I'll just send you the .PSD if you wanna try on your own, I kind of spent too much time working on this when I have projects to finish.

"Here you can see at least one pretty obvious clone stamp artifact. It's still not as bad as putting an extra rocket in the picture."
