He knows it's his real name and everything, but it still sounds like a slam.
Star Wars versus Batman!

I always hated that character name.

William Hootkins (the guy could not win), the actor who played Porkins, said in an interview that when he read his character's name, he assumed he was going to be some sort of pig alien - pig nose, pig ears, hooves for hands, something like that. He registered with some disappointment that they simply meant "This fat guy."

Fun fact: Hootkins was wearing a Keep On Truckin' t-shirt under his pilot costume (which was shared by all the X-Wing extras, and which didn't close in the back)

He was also, if I recall correctly, the corrupt Lieutenant Eckhardt in Tim Burton's Batman film.

Another Fun Fact: Prince can't release any of the songs from 'Batman' (the companion soundtrack album, which my older brother actually owned) because of rights issues with DC Comics. For once, restrictive licensing works in culture's favor!

He was also one of the dudes who sent Indiana Jones out for the ark.

Fun Fact: Indiana Jones really only led the Nazis to Marion Ravenwood early.
He absolutely had no impact for the entire rest of the movie, except to slow the bad guys down.

Fun Fact: Doctor Henry Jones was a bigger pimp than his son.

It's actually on Bristol, I just give myself a time limit on Little Batman stuff. I'd hate to think what would happen if I actually put effort into the illos ...

I love this comic! As a child watching Star Wars I was always traumatized by the fate of the fat guy. I am glad to know he was ok all along.

Porkins first name was supposedly "Jek", which I always thought was some fanboy's misinterpretation of Biggs yelling, "eject".

I like Jed way better.

And I say supposedly since I think the first name was generated by the minds at West End Games for the roleplaying game...as far from canon as one can get nowadays.

Eh, "Jed" is a way better name anyway. I like to think it was his nickname, maybe or maybe not coined by Batman.

I was gonna say that Batman just took Porkins to safety, and Porkins then moved to a small town in Utah and ran a small cafe, getting into macrobiotic cuisine and dropping forty pounds, and getting married to a woman named Sarah who handtools custom saddles. BUT I LIKE THE PSYCHOPOMP IDEA!
