Art Supplies

I see photography memes float around here and there, and this is one I’d like to try and encourage some of my cartoonist pals to start up - I’ve taken photographs of my essential supplies, the stuff I usually carry with me when I go somewhere to draw.

The whole set of images is up here, complete with descriptions of the tools and brands where I can remember ‘em.

Check ‘em out, and let me know if you do something similar, I’ll create a master-list of links to each photo set or journal …

That's a pretty cool meme idea.

I can't believe you use GW Skull White though... I would have thought that an actual art product would be better.

You'd think - I used to use just plain white gesso, but I found the miniature paints a lot more flexible. Also, easier to clean the brush ...

GW jars are notorious for letting their paint dry out. A little Vaseline on the jar threads might help-- and also, you might keep an eye out for Vallejo paints in the little squeeze bottle. They have a line of colors that are basically the GW colors under different names, and they're pretty nice (the metallics are great, anyway).

Interestingly, for mini painting here we just have a big bottle of Liquitex Titanium White (which is probably old enough to buy its own booze).

Do your pencils have a better survival rate?

Fair to poor at best, although the Robo-Sharpener's Cat Enjoyment Quotient is very high.

Well, can't say I'm really surprised. I only tested the motor with the wind-up key before sending it off (so I wouldn't dirty it up with graphite). However, the fun factor seems to be worth the (more than) occasional pencil sacrifice.

I know, it's shocking that Target, that storied art supply company, would make a slipshod pencil sharpener...

I saw this thing in other places before Target, like thinkgeek (who probably don't know from non-mechanical pencils anyway) and stupid.com (which is all about being goofy rather than useful). Who actually makes it?

I would totally do this, but am ashamed to admit I have no set of tools. As I'm sure you've seen, I carry round stumps of pencils in my pocket.

And that pencil sharpener makes the German Engineer of my heart very satisfied.

Aw, you got paints and brushes and some, like, frickin' carpentry tools man, I seen pictures of 'em before! They is worth photographing!

That's a pretty good set of tools! If I were more of an actual artist, and less of a "doodler of pictures of Ms. Marvel getting it in the can from MODOK," I'd post my own set ...

There you go. I like that you mix your own ink. I may go that route eventually, as I have yet to find one I like.
