You know, this is one of those asides you're welcome to skip, because it is pure nerd BUT: Honestly, if I were given the reins to writing the mainstream Batman comic, I'd totally make Alfred a figment of Batman's imagination. Like, Alfred really died something like five or six years ago and Batman's been hallucinating Alfred hanging around ever since, giving him advice and being all fatherly and stuff. Or just watching TV silently and Batman's talking to an empty cave, something like that.

a) a heartwarming example of magical realism.
b) a chilling warning about the hallucinatory effects of dypsomania
c) John Gielgud picking up a check
d) all of the above.

Eventually once your book got popular and Phantom Alfred became canon there'd be jerks making it into Calvin and Hobbes references with a little stuffed Alfred and ... yeah. I don't have to say the rest.
